ALCOHOLIC STRENGTH - EXTRACT - VOLATILE ACIDS - SORBIC ACID
ANALYSIS BY WAY OF FULLY AUTOMATED STEAM DISTILLATION
For the quick, inexpensive and accurate determination of the alcoholic strength (ethanol content) of wine, must, mash, liqueur, champagne, etc., and of extract, volatile and sorbic acids in wine - by way of a fully automated steam distillation process! No need to use an expensive laboratory thermostaten .
Unparalleled accuracy - better than 0.1 % vol alcohol!
Official measuring system according to the official journal of the european
communities, 33rd volume, of october 03, 1990.Principle of Analysis:
The alcohol contained in 100 ml of liquid sample is distilled over into a volumetric flask (100 ml), where it is diluted with distilled water to restore the original volume of the liquid sample. Thermal equilibrium between the sample liquid and the diluted distillate that has been obtained from that sample Iiquid - which is an indispensable precondition for any accurate measurement - is brought about and maintained by the configuration of the system ("natural thermostat').
The alcoholic strength of the distillate thus being identical with that of the original sample, alcoholic strength can be directly measured with an ultra-high precision hydrometer that is used in combination with a special hydrometer measuring system.
The determination of extract in wine requires the additional measurement of the density of the wine to be analysed. The subsequent calculation is based on the formula by Taberié.
Sorbic and volatile acids contents of wine are determined as usual from destillate.
Most important advantages:
• |
Measurement is based on distillation - the standard method of choice for any scientific and/or official analysis that sets the standards all other methods must meet. To initiate the fully automated quick distillation process fill in the sample liquid and press START (time flora distillation of 100 ml = 2 minutes). |
• |
Timed program execution - fully automated or manual distillation. |
• |
As a consequence of the above: saving of energy as well as cooling water. The cooling water supply is only activated during distillation cycles. |
• |
Also suitable for measuring high percentages of alcohol! |
• |
Even delicate samples (e.g. liqueur with egg yolks) can be measured undiluted! |
• |
Extremely simple and easy cleaning of the sample container! |
• |
No need to remove the sample container at the end of each distillation cycle! |
• |
Owing to the extremely gentle method of extraction, extracts remain unaltered (there am, for example, no chemical changes due to overheating or similar causes) and, thus, can be further analysed. |
• |
Self-adjusting, precise '"natural thermostatic control" of the sample liquid, the distillate obtained from that sample liquid and the distilled water needed to dilute the distillate is ensured by the configuration of the system. No costly additional thermostat needed - a simple tub full of water can be used instead. |
• |
Hydrometer measurement is performed by means of a truly innovative measuring system: the special glass cylinder is suspended in our proprietary cardanic stand, which can be easily equipped with a powerful magnifying glass (which is attached to the stand by means of Velcro fastener, i.e. can be installed or removed at will) This system eliminates practically all difficulties normally encountered in hydrometer measurement: A hydrometer that is placed in the center of a glass cylinder that has been suspended in the cardanic stand will sink very slowly and without any rotation into the sample liquid contained in the glass cylinder, so that there is no longer any danger of an accidental collision with the bottom of the glass cylinder, and will then automatically be in an ideal position for its readings to be taken - which can be optimally done by using the afore-mentioned magnifying glass. Just forget all you know about conventional hydrometer measurement! |
• |
Alcoholic strength and density am measured with ultra high precision hydrometers or - optional, yet even more appropriate - by means of officially gauged ultra-high precision hydrometers with official gauging certificates / certificates of calibration. In the latter case, the extremely high measuring accuracy of the corresponding instrument is officially documented, with the consequence that the measured results can even be used as documentary evidence in a court of law. |
• |
KUEBLER's extremely comprehensive range of top hydrometer products features densimeters with a measuring accuracy of 0.00003 g/mI as well as alcoholometers with a measuring accuracy of 0.02 % vol. And this is by no means just yet another promotional statement (easy to write down, but difficult to verify), but a well-established fact that has been officially confirmed by a number of Gauging Offices mn by the Lands of the F.R.G. We use hydrometers because the cost-performance ratio of hydrometers is far superior to that of all comparable measuring instruments. |
• |
No special refuse, no use of hazardous (carcinogenic) chemicals for the alcohol destination, no pollution of the environment, no threat to human health! |
• |
Independent and flexible - no need to wait tr laboratory results. |
• |
No expenses for laboratory examinations, shipment of samples, etc. |
• | Measuring accuracy: at least comparable with that of the official standard method of analysis. Absolutely reliable - yet tar easier to perform and much less time-consuming than the official standard method. |
• | No skilled operators required! |
• |
Fundamentally new nomograms (laminated and, therefore, extremely durable) for a more convenient, quicker and easier performance of accurate calculations, e.g. of extract in wine or as required for the temperature correction of alcoholometer readings. |
|
To summarize all of the above:
We have advanced the official standard method of analyis in more than one respect: our method is not only far less time-consuming, but also extremely safe and can be easily performed by almost anyone with high accuracy. |
|
Ideal - both for medium-size and large industrial producers of alcoholic beverages, winegrowers' cooperatives, etc., and for checks on the performance of analysis systems that have not been officially gauged or me not appropriate for official gauging (e.g.: fully automated systhms). can also be used to verify and, thus, ensure compliance v'flth dinflso 9000 and/or other official standards.
