FOR THE QUICK AND EASY MEASUREMENT OF THE ALCOHOLIC STRENGTH (ETHANOL CONTENT) OF WINE, MUST, SPARKLING WINE AND LIQEUR
AND THE DETERMINATION OF EXTRACT IN WINE THE EXCELLENT ALCOHOL MEASURING SYSTEM WITH THE MANY ADVANTAGES THAT OPERATES ON THE BASIS OF THE STANDARD REFERENCE METHOD (= DISTILLATION)
If the optionally offered optimal parts and components are used, measuring accuracy for alcoholic strength (i.e. +/- 0.15 % vol.) is - at least - comparable with that of the standard reference method (distillation plus use of pycnometers).
As this distillation apparatus can be heated on any kitchen stove, there is, on principle, neither any need for an extra burner nor for any type of holding fixture. A typical distillation cycle will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes. After that, a Euro Class III alcoholo-meter (pursuant to DIN 12803 - i.e. with a measuring span of 5 % vol.) is used to measure the alcoholic strength of the distillate in a stand cylinder. To obtain accurate measuring results, the user must make sure that the original sample liquid, the distillate obtained from that sample liquid and the distilled water (which is needed to fill up the distillate) have been heated to the same temperature - which must not necessarily be 20 °C - and that the thermal equilibrium so achieved is maintained over a span of time of at least 15 minutes. If time is not important to the user, that equalization of the temperatures of the afore-mentioned liquids can even be achieved by, for example, storing them at room temperature over a prolonged period of time. However, any alcoholometer readings that have been taken at a temperature other than 20 °C must be temperature-corrected. This correction can be accomplished by means of a temperature-correction nomogram or by using an existing official alcohol table or similar information. A considerably quicker, safer and far more convenient performance of analyses can be achieved if the especially recommended parts and components (cf. at the end of this brochure) are used.
Further advantages of Vinoquant 3 are:
|
• |
No use of hazardous (carcinogenic) chemicals = no pollution of the environment, no threat to human health. |
||||
|
• |
No need to wait for laboratory results. |
||||
|
• |
No expenses for external laboratory analyses. |
||||
|
• |
No skilled operators required. |
||||
|
• |
Single precision-ground joint to ensure that the glass components of the distillation apparatus
perfectly fit together. |
||||
Vinoquant 3: |
The ideal method - both for use in small and medium-size enterprises and to check on the per formance of analysis systems that have not been officially gauged. Also suitable for joint use by several enterprises. Alcoholic strength as stated on the labels of beverage bottles is regularly checked by the Commercial Control Service. Vinoquant will, therefore, not only prevent you from making incorrect statements, but it will also protect you against the corresponding fines. With liqueurs, for example, the range of tolerance is as narrow as +/- 0.3 % vol. |

In order to be able to start work immediately, the user may possibly have to order additional parts and/or components (cf. "Options"), e.g. a suitable alcoholometer or temperature-correction device.
Optional
Additional parts and components for a quicker and more convenient performance of analyses and/or specifically required for analyses of liqueur or mash and/or needed for the determination of extract in wine.
Additional parts and components needed for the analysis of liqueurs:
To eliminate the risk of samples being burned in the process of distillation, two parts of water must be added to each liqueur sample to be analyzed. In consequence, the alcoholometers to be selected for such analyses must show correspondingly "lower" readings. Accordingly, any readings obtained from those analyses must be multiplied by 3 to reflect the "true" readings for the alcoholic strength of the liqueurs to be analyzed.

Natural thermostat Tub and overflow vessel, with 2m discharge tube and holding fixture for the distillation apparatus. The perfect solution for all temperature-related problems. First, the natural thermonstat is filled with water. Next, the liquid sample to be analyzed, the distillate obtained from that sample and the distilled water that is needed to fill up the distillate are placed into the natural thermostat which will then quickly balance the temperaturesof the liquid sample, the distillate and the distilled water very closely - which is the mostimportant prerequisite for accurate mesuring results. The holding fixture ensures thatthe distillation apparatus will not fall over, e.g. from an accidental push. |

L2000 |
• |
Cardanic stand with many advantagesIf used in combination with Cat. No. L2002 (cf. below), the stand cylinder that is part of the basic configuration can be suspended in the cardanic stand which eliminates practically all of the difficulties normally encountered in hydrometer measurement (thus, for example, hydrometers will sink very slowly into the sample liquid, without any rotation). Suspension of the glass distillation apparatus in the cardanic stand is also possible - and indispensable, if the distillation apparatus is heated by means of the burner offered below. |
|
L2006 |
• |
Magnifying glass for use on the cardanic stand with powerful magnifying lens; considerably facilitates the reading of hydrometer scales; can be attached to the cardanic stand by means of Velcro fastener, i.e. with one quick grip. |

|
K1184 |
• |
Burner with splint pin for the cardanic and special reducing adapter for the glass deistillation apparatus, for butane gas (which is available everywhere), and, therefore, independent of any power or water supply. This continuously adjustable power burner generates temperatures of up to approximately 1400 °C, which reduces the duration of a distillation cycle to approximately 12 minutes. |

|
K1503 |
• |
as above, yet no waterproof design; with drip pan; permits to store up to 4 hydrometers with outside diameters of up to 30 mm in an inclined position near the laboratory workplace. |
|
K1504 |
• |
as above, yet designed for up to 6 hydrometers |
|
K1505 |
• |
Storage rack for glass measuring cylinders , solid grey PVC, waterproof design; permits to store up to 6 glass cylinders to be used in the cardanic stand next to that stand in an upright position, can also be placed in the water contained within the natural thermostat (in that case the cylinders will always have the required temperature, so that it is ensured that temperature-related errors will be avoided). |
The following instrument configuration is especially recommended to achieve a very quick and convenient performance of extremely accurate measurements: Basic configuration + natural thermostat + 2 lead rings + cardanic stand + magnifying glass + reducing adapter + (if required for the particular application) temperature-correction nomogram for hydrometers. If an extremely quick performance of analyses is desired, the optionally available power burner is to be added to the above list of recommendations. As one natural thermostat permits to simultaneously balance the temperatures of several glass distillation units, it is possible to perform 6 to 9 complete alcohol analyses per hour.
